The Outwin 2016: American Portraiture Today showcases the forty-three most inspiring and intriguing works of the triennial Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition. Artists from across the United States are invited to submit works to be considered for prizes and display at the Smithsonian s National Portrait Gallery. More than 2,500 entries were received in a variety of visual-arts media, ranging from oil paintings and drawings to sculpture, photographs, and mixed media. Grand-prize winner Amy Sherald received a $25,000 award.
